Two of TNCC Student
Government Executives honored
at convention in New Orleans

David Saunders, president of the Thomas
Nelson Community College Student Government
Association, and Willie Brown, Jr., speaker ofthe
Thomas Nelson Community College, have been
recognized as an exemplary campus leaders.
Saunders, of Hampton, and Brown, of
Newport News, were awarded the designation of
Certified Student Leader duringtlte 29th National
Conference on Student Services held in New
Orleans, LA recently. They were two of only 27
students in the nation to earn this award by scoring
high on an examination, upon completion of a
course ofstudy in five key areas. These include
pariiamentary procedure, leadeiship/admim^
diversity, publicity, and legal issues. This training
gives them advancedskffisincniciaiareasreqiiiied
for taking a leadership role on today's campuses.
Brown has also been named as a member of
the executive board of die American Student
Association of Community Colleges, headquartered
in Washington, DC. He wiD be one of four mem-bers
representing the Southeast Region on the 16
memberboard.
