The m e m b e r s h i p of the Hampton Roads H o r t i c u l t u r a l S o c i e t y (HRHS) was i n f o r m e d of t h i s need by i t s P r e s i d e n t , Dr. Thomas F. Kilduff, J r. Kilduff is a l s o a TNCC P r o f e s s o r and D e p a r t m e n t Head of M e c h a n i c a l Technology and Welding. The m e m b e r s h i p of HRHS a p p r o v e d the appointment of M r . J a m e s D. Ashley, Mr. Norman B e a l e , Mr. & M r s . H. deShields Henley, and Kilduff to s e r v e as a c o m m i t t e e to a s s i s t the c o l l e g e . During a m e e t i n g of the HRHS C o m m i t t e e and the Thomas F. Kilduff, J r . TNCC M a s t e r Site P l a n n i n g C o m m i t t e e , it was decided to c o n c e n t r a t e on the grounds s o u t h of H a s t i n g s Hall. Before a c t i v e planning could begin, drawings of the s e l e c t e d a r e a w e r e needed. A m e m b e r of D r . C h a r l e s B u s h ' s a r c h i t e c t u re c l a s s provided the needed d r a w i n g s and the l a n d s c a p p i n g plan of the t a r g et a r e a was c o m p l e t e d by the HRHS C o m m i t t e e. The c o m m i t t e e was a l s o i n s t r u m e n t a l in s e l e c t i n g and planting valuable t r e e s p u r c h a s e d f r o m the V i r g i n i a T r u c k and O r n a m e n t a l s R e s e a r c h Station which w e r e planted in D e c e m b e r , 1982. It was t h r o u g h the e f f o r t s of one c o m m i t t e e m e m b e r that the Chesapeake G a r d e n Club, M r s . L. Wallace Sink, P r e s i d e n t , and the Kecoughtan Garden Club, M r s . Thomas B. Andrews, P r e s i d e n t , gave funds for the p u r c h a s e of 13 willow oak t r e e s and 6 s l a s h pine t r e e s . The bamboo s t a k e s u s e d in p l a n t i n g the t r e e s w e r e given by c o m m i t t e e m e m b e r s. THE 1982-83 SCATS BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE SWITCHBOARD
