From the President a r c h i v e s President's "open Door" Meeting Scheduled For January 29 The next "Open Door" meeting with TNCC President Templin is scheduled for Friday, January 29 from 7:30 - 9:15 a.m. in the Peninsula Room. A light breakfast will be served. The format for the session is an informal discussion. Topics the President will discuss include the 1993 legislative session and preparation for the college's self-study for reaccreditation. Other issues will be discussed according to the interests of those present. The meeting is open to anyone wishing to attend. Templin Named Head Of College Association Thomas Nelson Community College President, Robert Templin, was last week appointed to serve as the 1993 President of the Association of Virginia Colleges and Universities (AVCU). The association is the only organization in the Commonwealth representing all Virginia institutions of higher education, including both private and public. More than 65 colleges and universities are members of AVCU. Christine Pederson To Serve As Editor Of Sacs Self-study Report Christine Pederson, Instructor of English, has been appointed to serve as editor of the college's self-study report and as assistant director of the SACS Self-Study Steering Committee. Dr. Bobbie Wright was appointed last November to chair the steering committee. A Self-Study Kick-Off visit will take place during the latter part of March when the SACS Executive Director will visit our campus. Following this visit the college will begin an intensive self-study extending over a period of 18-24 months with a SACS visiting committee coming in the Spring of 1995. Professor Emeritus Nominations Due February 15,1993 The deadline for nominating persons to be considered for appointment as Professor Emeritus is February 15,1993. The status of Professor Emeritus is one of our methods of honoring persons for meritorious service. According to VCCS policy, the eligibility criteria and benefits of the honorary appointment include: Eligibility Retired employees of the VCCS who held faculty rank (usually that of associate professor or professor) Persons with a minimum of ten years of service in the VCCS. Persons who made meritorious and significant contributions to the college Benefits Emeriti professors shall continue to be listed in the faculty section of the college catalog and identified as professors emeriti. Professors emeriti may appear in the academic procession at commencement and shall march at the head of the faculty.
